Why you should go to a world class business school

This week I was fortunate enough to attend or better experience one week of intensive business school learning at the heart of London. More precisely at London Business School.

For me it was the first time of attending a business School in general. When I was 22 I tried to get into different business schools for several times but couldn’t make it. Since it was always my dream to go to a world class state of the art business school I felt pretty excited before hand.

The exact Programm I was attending was called Growth Forum in collaboration with an organization called EO — entrepreneur organization I am part of. Being part of that organization I was also able to get into London business school.

When I got enrolled into that program I started getting mails that were explaining everything. Where would I life, what would the programm be like and what should I do before arriving. So I was supplied with about 200 pages of pre reads that would be the basics for the weeks teachings.

The material we got was very interesting and I directly felt the impact of the quality. The cases, the articles and the books that were used have been selected so profoundly. I could feel that even before having been there. This gave me quite a lot of motivation to prepare everything.

When I finally arrived at London business school one day before the program started I got welcomed very nicely. After checking in I was shown my dorm. The room was small but very nice. Very comfy bed, small table, tv, own bathroom and some London Business School sanitary care products that made me feel part of the team directly.

During the first evening I met two guys that were also attending the same Programm and we went out for dinner. It was so interesting to see what people from around the world were attracted to an event like that.

The first day started of with a case study. I never did a case study before as I never experienced such valuable education. I was amazed of how interesting experiences I could gain from a story out of a paper of 7 pages. It was like if I had experienced it in my own life.

At the evening of the first day we sat together in our study groups. Small groups of 4–6 people from around the world. At the beginning I thought “what do we need these groups for” in hindsight I know. These groups were to discuss all the cases we were talking about during the week. Within these groups we had many different standpoints and could gain knowledge outside of our own thinking and experiences. Besides that, all the members of my study group are now my friends because we had a really intense time together and all of them were awesome individuals.

Every day there were interesting people showing up explaining us stuff around growth, strategy or how to assemble top teams. That was just awesome up to date and on the point.

The last day we discussed an Interesting case about a company who planned to build a pipeline. Like you do case study discussions the professors hands out case a at first. Then you discuss where we are and where we should be going. Then you get case b and c and so on. In that particular scenario our professor showed up at the evening and said “who wants to know how they decided?”. As we were working on that case now for quite a while our interest was amazingly high. So he pointed to the back of the room and said that the guy who actually founded that company 20 years ago was just sitting there for the last 3 hours listening to us what we think his enterprise was doing and should be doing.

That was just awesome. A Real case and a real person to tell the true story behind it.

This last event made the experience complete. We moved from theoretical case talking to real talk. For me this was a real benefit and I think I ll be able to take a lot of new approaches in my business with the new valuable knowledge.

So why you should go? Just because you gonna learn a lot that will save you tons of money, time and experiences you won’t elsewhere.
